Training Phase 3: Follow-up

It is critical that you maintain the improvements you have made! The purpose of follow-up appointments is to ensure that you have maintained progress, and to create strategies for continued improvement. You can expect excellent progress during Phases 1 and 2; however, improvement is not complete at the end of Phase 2. Continued improvement throughout the follow-up phase is fostered.

Continued focus on improving pronunciation, intonation, and overall communicative effectiveness paves the way for growth that persists beyond the last training session.

What can I expect during Phase 3 follow-up sessions?
We will meet with you at specific intervals following completion of Phase 2 and post-training testing. Post-training testing occurs upon completion of Phase 2, and it provides a method of analyzing your progress. Follow-up sessions will be scheduled to occur at intervals approximately 1, 3, and 6 months following post-training testing. These sessions target any remaining areas of difficulty and monitor your speech for maintenance and continued improvement. We will also consult with you about how to achieve even more advances in your communication.

How does all of this impact my communication skills?
Improved effectiveness of communication and increased confidence correlates with better career and educational opportunities. The advances you have made are becoming a more natural part of how you speak.

Do I need to spend time doing outside assignments?
Your accent trainer may provide specific assignments and recommendations to target any remaining areas of weakness. If you and your accent trainer have designed a follow-up program that involves a friend or colleague who has agreed to assist with follow-up training, your accent trainer will consult with you regarding the design and progress of this follow-up program
